As a route to Reading Endorsement, the Literacy Matrix (LM) is a competency-based online professional development tool for teachers to learn foundational knowledge and skills for effective reading instruction. Developed with philanthropic dollars from the James Patterson Foundation, Florida Education Foundation, and Helios Foundation, the LM is designed to increase the capacity of individual teachers to teach reading effectively, diagnose reading problems, and intervene appropriately using evidence-based methods. The LM is comprised of five competencies, with each including content addressing the major components of reading and practical strategies in the areas of foundation, assessment, instruction, and intervention.

Teachers are given the opportunity to apply research-based strategies and submit a practicum for each content strand to demonstrate evidence of their learning for review and feedback. The Literacy Matrix is powered by a custom-built Professional Learning Management System, Flamingo Learning, and offered online for ease of access.

Access to the online professional learning and payment of the Reading Endorsement Fee will be provided for a maximum of 12 months from the date of registration.
