Introduction to Law School and the Profession

Dear 2018 Entering Class,
Thank you for registering for the Introduction to Law School & the Profession (ILSP) program. I am excited that you have chosen to attend the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Attendance at ILSP events is mandatory. Your study of law will begin on Tuesday, August 7 at the J. Wayne Reitz Union Ballroom, located at University of Florida; 686 Museum Road; Gainesville; FL 32611. I am looking forward to your arrival and the Office of Student Affairs shall do our very best to get you off to an excellent start.
On Tuesday, August 7, ILSP will begin in the morning and will feature speakers to begin introducing you to the College of Law and the legal profession. On this day, you will receive your ILSP materials, information on the policies and regulations governing your legal education and the profession, and you will have the opportunity to get to know your Ambassador. All new students are assigned to an ILSP Team, which is led by an Ambassador. The Ambassadors are current students who have been selected for their interest in helping members of the entering class succeed. Your Ambassador will assist and guide you through your first year. On Wednesday, August 8, the ILSP will take place at the Levin College of Law, where the focus will be on academics and the skills needed to succeed in law school. On Thursday, August 9th, you will participate in a half day community service project in the Gainesville community. That evening, August 9th, there will be a banquet at the J. Wayne Reitz Union Ballroom; 686 Museum Road; Gainesville; FL 32611. Finally, on Friday, August 10, there will be sessions focused on legal research and writing, which will include your first class. The ILSP will be a very busy time as you will be taking care of final details before your regularly scheduled classes begin on Monday, August 13, 2018. Thus, I encourage you to have completed your move-in activities before August 7th, so that you can focus on your education once you begin. Please remember that all non-University of Florida graduates must forward an official undergraduate transcript showing conferral of a Bachelor’s degree, prior to matriculation. Official final transcripts should be submitted to LSAC in the same manner you provided preliminary transcripts during the initial application process. If you are earning your Bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida during the Summer Term of 2018, please notify the Student Affairs office at: Student.svc@law.ufl.edu.
Parking is exceedingly difficult and limited at the College of Law during the academic year. I recognize that students consider multiple factors when making housing decisions. Please make your plans for parking while at the law school one of the important considerations. Our webpage has specific information regarding purchasing decals and campus bus lines. Please be aware that there is law parking a couple blocks from the law school at the Campus Church of Christ. I mention this option because you are guaranteed a parking space. This is a short walk to the law school and if you return to campus after 3:30 p.m. on a weekday, you may park in one of the parking lots on campus (parking restrictions are lifted on weekends as well).
