Collaborative Curriculum Design for Authentic STEM Education

The University of Florida Institute for Food and Agricultural Sciences is pleased to offer a workshop series for 9th-12th grade STEM and Agriculture teachers focused on interdisciplinary science topics. The Collaborative Curriculum Design for Authentic STEM Education (CCDASE) will help you re-work classroom lessons to incorporate science and agricultural research that is contemporary and relevant to your local context with an equity teaching focus to increase access for all learners. The instruction time will total 24 education hours.

The first workshop in the series will take place Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30 at the University of Florida’s North Florida Research and Education Center in Marianna, FL. Our focus will be on the cattle industry as we dive into research to increase productivity while being mindful of environmental impacts from forage and greenhouse gases.

Please enter any accommodation needs on the final registration page. Please send questions or additional requests to Lauren Keiser or Katie Stofer at the contact information in the upper left of this page.

What does the workshop look like?

The Collaborative Curriculum Design for Authentic STEM Education (CCDASE) workshop has three parts:

  1. A virtual, asynchronous, 6-hour component on Facilitating STEM for All Learners, completed through UF Canvas before September 29, 2023**.
  2. A synchronous, in-person (Marianna, FL at UF’s North Florida Research and Education Center) evening and weekend session, Friday and Saturday, September 29-30, 2023 (10 hours total) focusing on discussions of goals, collaboration with scientists and education researchers and fellow teachers, lab tours, and presentations of research content. See detailed tentative agenda below.
  3. Choice of at least 2 synchronous virtual sessions focused on re-designing a course component (8 hours total). These dates will be determined by participants but held weekday evenings and/or weekends in October 2023.

**The virtual asynchronous course is available now and is open to all teachers worldwide regardless of application to or acceptance to CCDASE workshop. Please access the course here: Facilitating STEM for All Learners - STEM Engagement (instructure.com)
